Below is a chart which I have developed over time in an attempt to show English grammar in a "nutshell". It takes some time to understand how it works and there are of course some exceptions to the general rules, but if you study it enough, hopefully, you will begin to see how it works.

Students who understand how the chart works have told me that it has been very useful to them. It is best printed out on (A3) or extra large paper.

Try replacing the underlined verbs with other verbs in the correct form...

Do = infinitive eg live, work, go, have etc

Did = Past Simple eg went, had, wanted etc... regular verbs end in -ed

Done = Past Participle eg done, been, gone etc... regular verbs end in -ed here as well eg liked, wanted etc...
